Azzam – World’s Largest Yacht Officialy Launched in Germany

- 1 коментара

Azzam – world’s largest yacht has been officially launched by Lürssen, the German luxury boat builder in the water near its Bremen, Germany facility. A 590-foot (180-meter) vessel exceeded Roman Abramovich’s yacht Eclipse, which previously held the title of world’s largest yacht, measures 538 feet long.
Luxury private ship is also among the fastest and can pull 30 knots (34.5mph).

The person who commissioned the massive construction remains unknown, but industry sources say the owner is likely the royal family of the United Arab Emirates, who supposedly paid a whopping $627.4 million for it.

According to Lürssen, the engineer’s brief was “to build a large luxury yacht with an innovative and timeless design that would be able to travel at high speed in warm and shallow waters, whilst providing luxurious and sophisticated accommodation to its guests”.

There are no immediate descriptions available of the interior, though we know it’s in the hands of French interior designer Christophe Leoni, who’s using a “turn of the century Empire style.” Some of the additional details include a main salon with a length of 29 m and a beam of 18m with an open plan and no pillars.
Peter Lürssen of Lürssen Yachts described the yacht as “a milestone in not only our history but yachting history as well”.

Azzam will go through sea trials later this summer and will be delivered to its owner later this year.

ADM Shipyards Launches Yay Supeyacht – World’s 6th Largest Yacht

- 0 коментара

Abu Dhabi’s ADM Shipyards has just launched the 462.5 ft. megayacht Yas (ex. Swift 141), which now ranks as the world’s 6th largest, just ahead of Crown Prince Sultan of Saudi Arabia’s Al Salamah and David Geffen’s Rising Sun. The vessel was once an ex-naval frigate that was converted into a high-rolling luxury superyacht. The yacht is rumored to have been commissioned by a member of an Arabic royal family.

Yas M/Y was styled inside and out by Pierrejean Design in Paris, with a strikingly graceful exterior of fluid curves and volumes, and a spectacular structural covering of glass. She can comfortably accommodate up to 60 guests and 56 members of the staff, while modern diesel power and variable-pitch propellers assure cruising speed of 20 knots, transoceanic range, and green fuel economy. As an ex. Naval Frigate, her hull lines were originally designed for speed. Even now as a superyacht, Yas and her hull will aid in high speeds for her size. At her size top speed is expected to be in the region of 26-knots.

The yacht features an automatic stern platform, outdoor pool and spa, a garage to store water toys and a carbon-fibre door that serves either as a boarding or swim platform. Dual bow and single stern thrusters permit dynamic positioning for her crew. Moreover, according to ADM Shipyards her audiovisual entertainment system is the most extensive and sophisticated aboard any yacht.

Other hi-tech gadgets will include advanced radars, SatCom, long-range underwater Sonar, FLIR and high-definition day cameras, and Night Navigator. She is constructed under Classification by Det Norske Veritas (DNV) and is the first yacht ever built to comply with requirements of the new UAE Large Yacht Code developed for private vessels. Currently, finishing touches are being made to complete the interior and she will be delivered in 2012.

1960 Riva Tritone ‘Speciale’ Cadillac Powerboat At RM Auction

- 0 коментара

During the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este on Lake Como, Italy, on the 25 May RM Auctions will offer to the collectors and connoisseurs world’s most exotic and exclusive vehicles. Besides Ferrari, Bugatti, Rolls-Royce and others, the exclusive evening sale will include 1960 Riva Tritone ‘Speciale’ Cadillac Powerboat.

Wooden powerboats built by Carlo Riva from his yard on Lake Iseo reflects the spirit of la dolce vita in the 1950s and 1960s. Riva’s sumptuous, hand crafted wooden sports machines very quickly established themselves among the world’s elite, from royalty to movie stars, including the likes of Brigitte Bardot, Peter Sellers and Sofia Loren.

Achille Roncoroni was an industrialist from Como requested from Riva to build him a unique example of its range-topping Tritone model to be the largest and fastest Riva ever seen and that he should never build another custom boat thereafter. The Tritone ‘Speciale’ Cadillac, named Ribot III by its owner, lived up to Roncoroni’s expectations in every way. Her 8.3 metre hull remained the biggest for many years, and the 325 horsepower Cadillac Crusader Marine V-8 was the most powerful engine available at the time. New lettering was forged for the hull and dashboard, while the bespoke interior of blue, red, and white was specially crafted. The engines were finished in red rather than blue, and the inside of the hull was painted white, as opposed to the usual grey.

The boat was reaching a remarkable top speed of 96 km/h, establishing a new record for a Riva runabout powered by stock engines and propellers. This wonderful powerboat represents a unique opportunity for enthusiasts, investors, and Riva aficionados to acquire a truly unique piece of boating history. It is expected to fetch between $720,000 and $980,000 when it goes under the hammer at the May auction.

In addition to Ribot III, RM’s upcoming sale during the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este weekend will also feature a powerful 1956 Riva Ariston Cadillac. Named ‘Slughi’, it is one of just six Aristons fitted with the powerful 250hp Cadillac engine in 1956. Additionally, it was the second of just 19 boats built, of which it is today the only surviving example from that year. Having spent its entire life in Italy, it is freshly restored and estimated between $235,000$290,000.

Stand Craft 166 Megayacht

- 0 коментара

How will the neighbors at the marina ever know that you’ve got a world-class supercar if you have to keep it tucked away in the garage while you’re out sailing the Mediterranean? The shipwrights at Strand Craft have the perfect solution. Earlier this year we brought you plans for the Strand Craft 122, and followed that with particulars of its availability. Now the shipyard has returned with an even bigger, more impressive design.

Meet the Strand Craft 166, a modern yacht that comes with its very own high-horsepower supercar tucked in the aft. The wheeled machine in question will reportedly wield a 620-horsepower V8, and Stand Craft claims that the vehicle will clip off a top speed of 189 mph. Of course, you could order your own choice of hot wheels be it Koenigsegg, Maybach, Lamborghini or a Ferrari.

It’s a fitting trinket to go along with a yacht that packs a hidden Jacuzzi tucked into the bow, a retractable fly bridge that tucks away the ship’s radar arrays when not in use and a whopping total of five state rooms. Each of the suites is loaded with 52-inch Bang & Olufsen TVs with iPad controls.

The power behind this creation is astonishing. It uses two MTU 20V4000 M93L, turbocharged V20 diesel engines, each outputting 4300kW, and, an additional Vericor TF50 gas turbine booster engine supplementing 4177kW. So all up, the SC166 superyacht offers 12777kW of power. Strangely, the top speed offering isn’t all that great, just 40 knots (74km/h).

The SC 166 comes with the option of having upholstery made from an exclusive Japanese Samurai tread leather. These custom designed leathers are woven from a bullet-proof textile made of Vectran fibres. Optionally all walls can be covered in Samurai leather to make it a bullet proof yacht.

A Grey Design press release recently summed it up perfectly, saying: Her low stance, enormous length and curled haunches give this vessel a dynamic aesthetic that is guaranteed to turn heads in the the most well appointed marinas. It sure would.

Theodoros Fotiadis of Hermes & Zeus Design teamed up with Mystic Powerboats, who specialize in design, engineering and manufacture of high-performance powerboats to design its new luxury powerboat called the IF60, that is perfect combination of luxury and performance.

The powerboat’s lightweight and ride comfort comes from the use of a twin-stepped bottom V-hull design made of carbon fiber reinforcements, based on 20 years of stepped hull design history and capable of withstanding up to 6 g’s (a F1 racecar peaks at a g-force of about 5), as well as high-quality materials like Dupont Imron Marine Finishes Paint and e-glass construction. It measures 60 feet (18.3m) long, 13 feet (4m) at its widest point and 8 feet (2.4m) at its tallest.

It’s powered with twin MTU 10V 2000 engines rated at 1,600hp each, coupled with Arneson surface drives, which are known for being among the world’s most efficient propulsion systems. This allows a cruise speed of 60 knots (69 mph) and a nice max speed of 90 knots (104 mph), while the twin 2,200hp turbine-powered version can reach a staggering 180+ knots (200mph+).

The interior includes a galley, master head, guest head, master stateroom and a fort guest stateroom. Stylish electronically adjustable Recaro leather offshore seats are used, with options for either a 3-seat or 7-seat cockpit. This means gives you aft salon seating of either 16 or 12, respectively. A roadster-like windshield and a hardtop option. It has a flip-out swim platform, a bow sun lounge and an aft salon which can be converted into a rear sun lounge.

IF60 also comes with a full electronics package at the helm; a rear hydraulic opening engine hatch; a fully outfitted and finished cabin; safety glass windshield in carbon frame and electronically controllable exhaust flaps, to adjust the sound volume at the touch of a button. Pricing starts at €2,800,000 ($3,650,000) with a range of customizations that can be discussed.

The Lamborghini Yacht by Mauro Lecchi

- 0 коментара

The Lamborghini Yacht by Mauro Lecchi begs the question– why should Lamborghini owners only have their fun on the pavement?  Mauro Lecchi has developed a new design concept for the Lamborghini brand that could take its marque to the high seas.  The Lamborghini Yacht is an angular, progressively-designed luxury cruiser with seating both fore and aft, a modern cabin with large overhead glass and strong structural shapes stretching along its sides.
In developing his Lamborghini Yacht, Lecchi studied the styling elements of past Lambo models including the famed Lamborghini Reventon.  The common elements in Lamborghini styling are featured in the exterior shape and attitude of this yacht.  The result is a stunning design concept that we could certainly see taking shape on the water today.  Should it be produced, you can bet that the Bond villains, the heiresses and the Russian industry moguls of the world will be amongst the first to get in line for one of these.  [mauro lecchi]

Ferrari Hydroplane

- 0 коментара

The racing boat comes fitted with a 4.5 liter 12-cylinder Ferrari engine that will make it roar like an angry beast when unleashed. The speed coated ride is fitted with the same engine that used to power Ferrari F1 race cars back in 1950s.

The design is quite eye appealing and manages to fetch the much required attention. It raced last in the year 1960 and completed numerous fastest laps, which till date stands strong and far from being broken by any other creation in this category. Arno X1 is expected to fetch a good $1.3 million to $1.9 million at the auction. The boat will be accompanied by handwritten notes from none other than Gioacchino Colombo (a Ferrari engineer) and a collection of period photos.
Arno X1 is a true picture of beauty combined with great performance. If you are a serious car collector, then0 this sure should be on your hot list.

Hybrid foldable yacht

- 0 коментара

The luxury yacht was designed through the use of contemporary Italian design characteristics to give it certain features that most other yachts would not. What David and Hugo have done is they’ve tried to fuse luxury and efficiency to create a yacht with an all-new approach for the ultimate sailing experience. The students have designed the boat in a manner that will enable it to be folded in order to save space. The foldable luxury yacht is only 3.84 meters in length while its height measures a mere 1.85 meters. This way, it can easily be stored in the city garages while saving a lot of space. The Intense yacht also gets its inspiration from hand gestures, which can be seen in pictures of the project.

Inside, the Intense yacht includes features unlike any other we’ve ever seen. All functions inside the boat can be operated by simply using an iPad or iPhone. This, however, is done using specific applications. The interior is elegantly designed to provide the ultimate luxury yachting experience. According to the Intense project, the yacht, although relatively small in size, maintains its aesthetic values while its motion features make it different from any other yacht design. Modern technology is being strongly applied for the Intense project.

Keeping eco-friendly aesthetics in mind, the hull and bridge of the Intense will be made from hemp fiber composite. Hemp fiber is presently being used on a large scale basis for automotive composite products, and is largely produced particularly in North America. The interiors will also be made from eco-friendly materials. The chairs and lounge seats will be filled with biodegradable polymer that is extracted from corn and vegetable starch. The floor, which provides the option of customization in any color, is covered with flexiteek, a teak-like material made of composite materials. There is also the use of carbon fiber that will add to the yacht’s sporty appearance.
The Intense project is aimed at providing the best features any yacht could offer for an affordable price and will hopefully inspire future yacht designs. The materials used for the yacht will also be less expensive than many other luxury yachts and will help keep the water and the rest of the environment clean. Considering the positives of David Falcone and Hugo Cohen’s Intense hybrid project, its success will hopefully make an impact on the future of yacht design and encourage other yacht designers to lay more emphasis on eco-friendly projects.

Cigarette Racing 42X Ducati Edition

- 0 коментара

The Cigarette Racing Team is making a habit out of creating powerboats with design influences from non-aquatic vehicle sources. At the 2010 Miami International Boat Show it was AMG and the SLS supercar who provided the inspiration. And at the 2011 show it's the turn of Ducati to have their name plastered all over a premium powerboat.

The Cigarette Racing 42X Ducati Edition is a 42 foot (12.8 meter) powerboat which is powered by a pair of staggered 1,100hp Mercury Racing engines. That's 2,200 hp in total - allowing the vessel a 120+ mph top speed. The livery of the Cigarette Racing 42X Ducati Edition is reminiscent of Ducati. Finished in white with a Ducati Red racing stripe. The white interior boasts red accents and a specially designed stereo from JL Audio.

Gabriele Del Torchio, President and CEO of Ducati said of the Cigarette Racing 42X Ducati Edition: "We are delighted to team up with Cigarette Racing Team, the Ducati of the sea. This new 42X Ducati Edition brings together the two legends of performance, design and racing heritage. I am very excited to announce this exciting boat, and feel we have found an excellent new partner in the team at Cigarette Racing."

Complementing that statement, Skip Braver, CEO of Cigarette Racing Team added; "We are very proud to announce our partnership with one of the world's greatest high performance, design and lifestyle brands: Ducati. The relationship between Ducati and Cigarette Racing allows two incredible high performance brands to showcase our passions together in complimentary ways. Ducati is the only motorcycle brand that fits the performance and lifestyle expectations of Cigarette's customers."

So if you like Ducatis, and are in the market for a top-end powerboat, then you know where to look.

Dartline 60 Powerboat

- 0 коментара

Luxury powerboats are the ultimate expression of wealth. They’re hugely expensive, and unlike even a supercar they’re completely impractical for absolutley anything. Except perhaps looking good in open water. It takes a fairly special looking kind of vessel to stand out from the luxury yacht crowd these days, but that’s exactly what Italian designer Pietro Russomanno has created with his Dartline 60 concept.
Sadly that word ‘concept’ does make its way into the name – meaning it doesn’t actually exist yet. However the design is far from complicated, in fact it’s almost characterised by its symetrical simplicity. So any shipyards with some free time on their hands? You know who to call.

The Dartline 60 concept features cabin space within the hull, however Pietro doesn’t say how much or in what configuration. The exterior passenger area is made up of two intersecting circular spaces.  The front one incorporates the wrap-around windscreen as well as the cockpit area and additional seats. The rear circle features a rounded seating area and a large table, it also provides access to the rear swimming platform.

By using a classic combination of plain white paintwork, teak decking and chrome trim the Dartline 60 concept looks effortlessly cool. Somebody please make it.

KEYFRAMESTUDIO Space 65′

- 0 коментара

KEYFRAMESTUDIO (KFS), an Italian yacht design firm, have just announced their latest project. The Space 65′ is a luxury yacht which has been designed from the outset to offer the most versatile and variable interior space in its class. In fact the KFS Space 65′ is so good at using its available space to the best of its ability, that it spawned a book “Space65′ YACHT DESIGN AND INNOVATION”, which will be used in universities across Europe to teach naval designers how to make the best use of the available deck area.

The KFS Space 65′ was designed to be both contemporary yet timeless in both function and in aesthetics. All the individual areas on the yacht have been designed to flow between each other to create new, larger and interchangeable areas that vastly increase the usability of the Space 65′. The huge variable transparency glass dome is the centerpiece of the yacht. This overlooks the lower salon to give it an heightened sense of depth, while also allowing natural light to enter deeper into the vessel. The huge glass aft door opens to the full width, effectively joining the outer sunbed areas with the inside salon creating an enormous open space. Like the dome, the main aft door is made entirely of variable transparency glass. This technology allows the door to become completely opaque, therefore becoming an ideal “cinema” screen for the the guests on-board Space 65′.

The variable transparency glass is layered with liquid crystal films that are able to vary their polarization electrically. This allows the dome to be totally transparent (to enjoy a wonderful starry night), partially obscured (during the hot hours of the day) or completely obscured (to have maximum privacy in a port).

The tender is another notable feature of the yacht’s design. When parked it becomes an invisible part of the rear sea platform (hint: It’s in the center). This clever solution means the tender doesn’t take up valuable space within the hull itself. By storing the tender in this way the designers have allowed for a much larger service area and engine room.

Eden

- 0 коментара

The Eden is a luxury motoryacht concept by Daniel Hahn, a German design professional who studied product design.

The Eden is a 21 metre (72 foot) fast Motoryacht powered by a pair of 1,250 horsepower inboard engines. The design of the Eden is an interpretation of classic motoryachts. The aim of the project was to create a luxurious, desirable design which relied on its aesthetics more than technical innovation. The "Eden" name is intended to evoke "desirability, freedom and personal space".

The result is a sleek, generously proportioned, luxury watercraft with unique styling elements. The overall shape of the hull is characterised by the extreme change in cross sections from front to rear. The vertical bow of the Eden is in stark contrast to the wide horizontal stern.

The hull and body of the Eden is formed from two primary materials. The lower hull section is formed from lightweight carbon fibre, while the main body of the craft is sculpted from wood. These two sections are designed to fit into each other and provide an interesting material contrast.

The dramatic single piece windshield of the Eden flows smoothy into the rest of the bodywork helping to keep the overall shape as slippery as possible. Even the anchor is integrated into the body, only visible by a joint line in the front section.

The interior of the Eden motoryacht has room for 3 guests and a single crew member. The proposed range at maximum speed (40 knots) is 360 miles.

Cigarette Racing 46' Rider Inspired by AMG SLS

- 0 коментара

At the 2010 Miami International Boat Show specialist powerboat makers Cigarette Racing, and Mercedes-Benz's performance division, AMG, showed off the result of their latest collaboration - the Cigarette Racing 46' Rider AMG powerboat.

The boat was developed through a joint effort between the two performance brands, and it is designed to celebrate not only Cigarette Racing's 40th anniversary, but also the introduction of AMG's latest and greatest vehicle, the SLS supercar.

Employees from both companies paid visits to each other's facilities in order to gain insight into each others practices. The Cigarette Racing team were able to learn about new high-tech painting techniques and the latest engineering processes and materials. All of this knowledge was poured into the 46' AMG boat.

The styling of the powerboat took some of its inspiration from the SLS supercar. The paintwork is a hand-applied AMG ALUBEAM silver - one of the standard options for the SLS. This process, used exclusively by AMG, covers body surfaces like a metallic skin, targeting light reflections to further emphasize exterior character lines and design details. Showcasing the state of the art nanotechnology, this unique finish imbeds tiny pigments of color measuring just 30 to 50 nanometres. The ALUBEAM silver is contrasted with AMG Designo Mystic White metallic in a bold design echoing the Mercedes-AMG logo. Inside, the boat features marine-grade upholstery that resembles the two-tone AMG Designo porcelain and white Nappa leather offered on the SLS AMG. Below deck the vessel features racing inspired materials and finishes, like a carbon fiber cooler and an alcantara suede headliner.

While many of the influences of the SLS AMG can be seen in the exterior paint work and interior, the true benefits of the inspiration can be found below the surface. With more than 100 innovations on display, the all new 46' Rider serves as a technology showcase for Cigarette.

Powered by a pair of Mercury Racing, 9 litre, 8 cylinder, twin turbocharged engines, each producing 1,350 horsepower the 46' AMG boat can hit a phenomenal top speed of 130 + mph. However it's not just the outright performance that's impressive. These engines require only around a third of the servicing of similar performance engines, and are relatively fuel efficient. The offset and staggered location of the engines helps to improve the balanced weight distribution of the boat, and also allow for a closer grouping of the propellors. This results in less drag and higher performance.

Mercedes-Benz Granturismo Motor Yacht

- 0 коментара

At the 2012 Monaco Yacht Show, Mercedes-Benz Style and Silver Arrows Marine are presenting a design proposal for a luxury motor yacht called Granturismo. The 14 metre long (46 ft) seagoing Granturismo features design elements typical of Mercedes-Benz automobiles. The yacht is being developed and constructed in the UK by the boat-building company Silver Arrows Marine. The Mercedes-Benz Granturismo motor yacht is expected to come on the market some time in 2013.
Gorden Wagener, Head of Design at Mercedes-Benz Cars commented during the unveiling: “Giving shape to a boat was an exciting challenge for automotive designers like us. Our task was to explore how to apply the Mercedes-Benz design language to the particular proportions and specific requirements of a boat. We wanted to create something special and what we have come up with is indeed unique. The ‘Silver Arrow of the seas’ embodies pure emotion and stands for luxury, style and pleasure.”

Mercedes-Benz say the Granturismo Motor Yacht will be suitable for a variety of uses. The versatile interior makes it ideal for a day out on the water, or for longer trips requiring overnight accommodation.
Mercedes haven’t said how much the Granturismo will cost. But it’ll probably make the SLS look like pocketmoney!

1963 Corvette inspired speed boat by Bo Zolland

- 0 коментара

The 1963 Corvette inspired speed boat concept is a creation of Swedish designer Bo Zolland.
The concept uses many of the design features of the 1963 Corvette including the split rear window, tapering rear roofline, rounded windscreen and side windows, and louvered deck/hood.
Entry to the 1963 Corvette speed boat concept is via Gullwing doors. Inside is seating for five people. Proposed power for the concept comes from a variety of engines with the maximum horsepower output at 550 hp. The estimated top speed is 70 knots.
Zolland's design mix of Corvette and boat is extremely effective and well thought out. Boat builders Strand-Craft SWEDEN who have made some of Bo Zolland's previous concepts a reality are the people charged with constructing the Corvette inspired boat, if there is serious interest. Shouldn't be a problem there.

Review By RM from NJ
In regards to the 1963 Corvette inspired speed boat concept, which is a creation of Swedish designer Bo Zolland; the question is not why but 'When'. There are very few times when such timeless beauty, translates from one mode of travel to another so successfully. This is one of those times. 'WOW !!!' is all one can say.
