For the last eleven years, Harry Winston has partnered with a master horologist to create an exclusive and groundbreaking timepiece that reflects an unprecedented journey of collaboration and innovation. It is known simply as The Opus.
2011 heralds the latest addition to the vaunted Opus series, the Opus 11, in partnership with legendary watchmaker Denis Giguet. I can confidently state that the Opus 11 boasts the most complex and intricate time display I’ve ever seen.
Be sure to check out the video below along with a full gallery of the previous ten timepieces in the Opus Series. Many thanks to my brother for telling me about these watches!

Hublot Masterpiece MP-05 LaFerrari Watch

- 0 коментара
LaFerrari HublotWith Ferrari’s recent debut of the LaFerrari super car, Hublot has joined forces with the Italian automaker to produce one of the finest timepieces we’ve seen this year. The Hublot Masterpiece MP-05 LaFerrari is stunning in every single way.

Now you have a watch to go with your Rosso Corsa red Ferrari LaFerrari. That’s if you can even get your hands on one. They’re only making exactly 499 of them! The watch’s claim to fame is a 50-day power reserve which is a world record for hand-wound tourbillon wristwatch. The watch also features Hublot’s signature watch components such as the open case back, black PVD titanium case and SuperLuminova markings for the watch’s hours/minutes/seconds.

Also featured in the watch are power reserve indicators. The color accents on the watch are based off of the LaFerrari. There’s even a touch of carbon fiber to compliment the signature red. The Hublot Masterpiece MP-05 LaFerrari watch comes accompanied by a leather and carbon fiber case. Hublot is only making 50 of these timepieces which means that only 10 LaFerarri owners will get to rock the watch while driving the car at the same damn time!

Hublot

This is exclusivity at its finest. We’ve seen plenty of collaborations in the auto and watch industry but this is one of the most stunning collaborations we’ve seen so far to start the year! We’re interested to see if Hublot will make a few pieces with Lamborghini for their new $4 millon dollar Veneno. Time will tell.

Chopard LUC Engine One H Watch

- 0 коментара

In 2010, Chopard has unveiled its vertically configured model LUC Engine One Tourbillon. At this year’s Baselworld fair, the company plans to introduce a new model of horizontally configured, the LUC Engine One H.

The mechanism that drives this clock is caliber LUC 04.02-L, which is practically the same as its predecessor, horizontally mounted in the casing. Although quite astoundingly designed, like nothing we’ve ever seen until now, it is inspired and shaped to resemble an engine.

Power reserve on this model is easily visible as its predecessor, and with the “Full” and “Empty” makes clear that this model is inspired by cars. The case is titanium and the dimensions are 44.5mm x 35mm.
The new Chopard L.U.C. H One engine H has been improved over its predecessor in several ways, without modifying the clock basis. The watch will be produced in limited edition of 100 copies, and for the other details we are left to wait for the official launch.

MB&F MegaWind Watch

- 0 коментара

This new watch from MB&F is unique among watches. It is the first ever piece that is meant to be an improvement on an existing model. The HM3 MegaWind is the new generation of HM3 that improves on and replaces the first generationHorological Machine No. 3collection. The HM3 MegaWind is meant to be easier to read, more aesthetically pleasing, and in a watch, even more “HM3″ than the original model.

The “MegaWind” name comes from the larger battle axe-style automatic rotor visible through the front-facing sapphire crystal. This visually expands the movement compartment, though it is actually the same size as the original. The HM3 has been their top-selling model collection of all time. The original HM3 spawned a number of limited edition pieces including several versions of the HM3 Frog and very special pieces such as the HM3 JwlryMachine. Originally, the HM3 arrived in two forms, the HM3 Starcruiser and the HM3 Sidewinde.

Probably the most important element of the HM3 MegaWind is how you tell the time this is where the most obvious “improvement” comes into play. There is an arrow marker on the top of the cone that is used to read the time. One is for the hours and one is for the minutes. The original HM3 had just part of the cone wrapped in sapphire crystal, and reading the time from the top was rather difficult. The numerals are also applied with luminant for night viewing. An overall experience that involves more viewing area for the numerals and the wider viewing area allows the MegaWind to be a superior time-telling device.

Inside the HM3 MegaWind is the same Girard-Perregaux based automatic movement with the obvious modifications for the new hour and minute cones and lack of date indicator. The case is the same size and still seems to fit well and comfortably despite the unique cones that always seem to be looking at you. At launch, MB&F will offer the HM3 MegaWind in either 18k white gold or 18k red gold. The back plate of the case is once again in titanium.
The Maximilian Büsser & Friends HM3 MegaWind will be priced exactly the same as the outgoing HM3, the $92,000. For the first year in 2013 they will produce just 40 pieces, and while the HM3 MegaWind is not limited, it will experience a limited production of pieces being made each year.

The Iron Man of sports watches

- 0 коментара

As much as those indecipherable LED watches make us want to poke out our eyes, we’re not sure this one is much better.
Timberland’s HT2 looks like a watch that Picasso might have painted after an evening of debauchery, minus a misplaced eyeball or two. Then again, we’re not exactly what you’d call outdoors enthusiasts, so our appreciation is somewhat diluted.
This steroidal sports watch has any number of functions that we’d never use, including an altimeter, thermometer, barometer, chronometer, tachymeter, and digital magnetic compasses (analog and digital), according to Technabob. And you can keep track of four time zones simultaneously while diving up to 100ft under water. Just what everyone needs.

Histoire de Tourbillon 4 Watch – Limited to 20 Pieces

- 0 коментара

Harry Winston has just released the fourth installment of the Histoire de Tourbillon series, which began 2009 as new and interesting ways of presenting a tourbillon watch. Histoire de Tourbillon 4 is one of the most complex mechanical timekeepers ever made.
Its main feature is a unique triple-case tourbillon that is a tourbillon inside of a tourbillon inside of a tourbillon, each rotating at different rates per minute. The outermost cage completes a revolution once every 300 seconds (5 minutes), the intermediate cage rotates once every 75 seconds, and the innermost cage spins once every 45 seconds.

This stunning timepiece with its 47mm wide cushion-shaped case is made from a mix of Zalium (a Harry Winston alloy similar to titanium) and 18k gold. The The crown is white gold, with rubber grip. The thickness of the watch including the dome is 21.7mm. Inside the watch is their new caliber HW4501 that is manually wound with a 50 hour power reserve.

Over 3,500 hours of painstaking labor were required to develop Histoire de Tourbillon 4, and further testing and homologation of this most high performance of movements consumes over 400 additional hours. The most skilled watchmakers take a full 160 working hours to assemble the 345 movement components, which are then placed in a luxurious 18k polished white gold case, with Harry Winston’s signature ZaliumTM case band, arches, lugs.
Harry Winston will produce only 20 pieces of Histoire de Tourbillon 4, as penultimate watch of its Histoire de Tourbillon watch collection.

The mechanism comprises a total of 333 parts and has been nicely trimmed with a Cotes de Geneva decoration.

There are two color variants, the first Texalium dial with white, blue cabochon on the crown, and a strap in blue alligator, while the second has an orange dial Texalium, and a red-orange cabochon and strap.

Richard Mille the Tourbillon RM 27-01 for Rafael Nadal

- 0 коментара

From now, we expect to see Rafael Nadal wearing a new Richard Mille the Tourbillon RM 27-01 on his wrist during all of his matches. Not only is the look is vastly different but so is the engineering, but the main feature of the timepiece is its lightness (just 19 grams including velcro strap) and its priceless value ($690,000).

Made of titanium (for the baseplate and tourbillon carriage) and a aluminium-lithium alloy (for the barrel bridges and gear-train), this watch has an ultra-light movement which weighs just 3.5 grammes. Rafael Nadal timepiece has a baseplate attached to the case by four braided steel cables just 0.35 mm in diameter to protect the movement and to allow it to withstand accelerations of more than 5,000G.

This isn’t the first watch Richard Mille has produced for Nadal. But Spanish tennis player, one of the very few who wears a watch while playing, managed to ruin some of them while doing so. The first model, named the RM 27 had a chequered past, with the tennis player once leaving it behing in a locker room and once having it stolen from his hotel while he was sleeping. We’ll see whether he will have more luck with this new watch.

The RM 27-01, is currently available in a limited edition of 50 timepieces via official Richard Mille stockists

Avenger Vertical Tourbillon Watch

If you’re one of the few lucky enough to own the new Lamborghini Aventador, why not get a watch to match?  The Avenger Vertical Tourbillon Watch is inspired by the Aventador, a 218 mph supercar that is leading the pack for the Italian car manufacturer.  The orange and black color scheme of that lovely Lambo is continued here, wrapping itself around a wild display with a floating vertical tourbillon.  Designer Marko Petrovic has envisioned this concept which has yet to take a physical form, but we wouldn’t be surprised if Lamborghini is paying close attention to his provocative designs.  Nice work, Marko.  If you haven’t yet seen the Aventador for yourself, be sure to check out our recent list of the top 10 luxury cars of 2011, starting with that beast of a Lamborghini.

MB&F HM4 “Final Edition” Watch

- 0 коментара

It isn’t a stretch to call the group at MB&F one of the most inventive watch builders in this young century.  We’ve covered nearly every watch they’ve released in our four-year editorial history, and the arrival of this one is sweet, but a little bitter at the same time.  The MB&F HM4 “Final Edition” Watch is to be the final version of the Horological Machine No. 4, a system that has powered five thrilling timepiece models.  For a series inspired by the design of aircraft in the last century, this one recalls the planes that excited our own childhood– the stealth aircraft of the 1980s.

The MB&F HM4 “Final Edition” shares its inspiration between three aircraft from the last century, the F-117 Nighthawk, the B-2 Spirit and the SR-71 Blackbird.  These sharp, faceted aircraft designs were a product of the space generation, from a time the future seemed so close you could touch it.  Now, MB&F completes its 100 unit run of their HM4 watches by honoring this brief, high-design period in aviation history.  Only eight of these watches will be available, and information about purchasing them can be had directly from our friends at MB&F.
