Abu Dhabi’s
ADM Shipyards has just launched the 462.5 ft. megayacht
Yas (ex.
Swift 141), which now ranks as the world’s 6th largest, just ahead of Crown Prince Sultan of Saudi Arabia’s
Al Salamah and David Geffen’s
Rising Sun. The
vessel was once an ex-naval frigate that was converted into a
high-rolling luxury superyacht. The yacht is rumored to have been
commissioned by a member of an Arabic royal family.
Yas M/Y was styled inside and out by Pierrejean Design in Paris, with
a strikingly graceful exterior of fluid curves and volumes, and a
spectacular structural covering of glass. She can comfortably
accommodate up to 60 guests and 56 members of the staff, while modern
diesel power and variable-pitch propellers assure cruising speed of 20
knots, transoceanic range, and
green fuel economy. As an ex.
Naval Frigate, her hull lines were originally designed for speed. Even
now as a superyacht, Yas and her hull will aid in high speeds for her
size. At her size top speed is expected to be in the region of 26-knots.
The yacht features an automatic stern platform, outdoor pool and spa,
a garage to store water toys and a carbon-fibre door that serves either
as a boarding or swim platform. Dual bow and single stern thrusters
permit dynamic positioning for her crew. Moreover, according to ADM
Shipyards her audiovisual entertainment system is
the most extensive and sophisticated aboard any yacht.
Other hi-tech gadgets will include advanced radars, SatCom, long-range
underwater Sonar, FLIR and high-definition day cameras, and Night
Navigator. She is constructed under Classification by Det Norske Veritas
(DNV) and is the first yacht ever built to comply with requirements of
the new UAE Large Yacht Code developed for private vessels. Currently,
finishing touches are being made to complete the interior and she will
be delivered in 2012.
