Artists shows us what a world with wheel-less cars would look like

Getting a flat tire has got to rank amongst the most irritating experiences of the modern world. Perhaps Renaud Marion, noted French photographer, got a flat tire too many times which is what prompted him to create this series of photographs that capture the beauty of classic automobiles sans tires! Yup, the six-image series called Air Drive by the artists actually shows wheel-less vehicles including the Mercedes-Benz 300 and SL roadsters, the El Camino and Camaro from Chevrolet, the Cadillac DeVille and Jaguar XK120.

For most people, the invention of the wheel and motorized transport really signify the dawn of the greatest era in human civilization but the question that Marion seems to be posing here appears to be whether the wheel itself was as pivotal to the evolution of our species as we think it was. Most futurists are already pegging flying cars to replace the wheeled ones in the future so one may argue that even without the wheel, humankind could have progressed just as much had they discovered magnetic levitation before the wheel.

This notion of course gives way to a whole new world of possibilities- maglev technology, which is already being used in bullet trains, could have been employed in mass and individual transportation instead of animal-pulled vehicles eons ago. Even though there is no research to support this, perhaps maglev tech was used in construction in ancient Egypt too which would explain just how those massive stone blocks were stacked on top of each other to construct the pyramids!

We really don’t know what kind of a response Marion was hoping this series of photographs to evoke, but we definitely know that his anti-gravity vehicles are a part of a post apocalyptic scenario where human beings are either non-existent or have mastered the invisibility cloak as not one of these photographs features a single person!
