Qoros Flagship Sedan

Qoros Flagship Concept

Qoros, a brand-new Chinese automotive company, have just published details of a design study for a stylish sedan intended for the year 202o. It looks good. Really good. But before you get your hopes up that this is a new beginning for Chinese car companies. Be warned that this really is just a concept, and its designer, Jamie Barrett, is fresh out of design school. Although he is now based in Shanghai and currently working for Qoros. So there’s light at the end of the tunnel.

The aim of the project was to come up with something special which could show off what the company might be capable of in the near future. The car was given bold styling designed to help it stand out from the crowd, and also make sure it avoided any mention of being a copy, however loosely based, of another vehicle. Design inspirations for the concept include Chinese architecture and modern aircraft.

During the project Barrett was guided and assisted by Gert Hildebrand, Qoros’ Head of Design, and also designers Philippe Eberl and Tim Pilsbury from Magna Steyr where Barrett was located during his internship. But all that mentoring looks to have paid off, as the result is something which looks impressive and unique, but is also rooted in reality.
The Qoros Flagship Sedan concept is an important design for the company, as it’s intended to be the blueprint for Qoros cars of the future as the company moves towards the premiere of its first production car next year at the Geneva Motor Show. The company’s ultimate goal is to become the first Chinese automaker to actually compete seriously with established manufacturers from Europe and the US. And while that remains to be seen. This particular concept is a step in the right direction.
